Mythological tentpole film Adipurush fronted by Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, a retelling of the epic saga Ramayana, received only a moderate response from moviegoers in the USA. Trade circles expected the film to rake in massive numbers in the first weekend because of the massive hype among both Hindi and Telugu audiences. But, it managed to register only a lukewarm response due to the poor reviews and bad word of mouth. Moreover, poor planning from its distributor is another reason why the film couldn’t post solid numbers irrespective of the talk.
After embarking on a promising start with $1.5 Million gross ( Hindi + Telugu) from its first day including Thursday premieres, the Om Raut directional couldn’t gain much traction as expected on Saturday and Sunday. The film collected $ 570k on Saturday and added another $ 400K on Sunday to take the total close to $ 2.5 Million. Usually, these are good numbers for an Indian film in the first weekend. But, Adipurush needs to post bigger numbers considering the buzz it created before its release.
The detailed breakup of Telugu and Hindi collections is as follows.
Adipurush (Telugu): Fri (+premiere): $1,195,316 Sat: $271,511 Sun: $178,437 Total Weekend Gross: $ 1.62 million
Adipurush (Hind): Fri: $342,391 Sat: $297,354 Sun: $209, 441 Total Weekend Gross: $849k.
Also, if we look at the breakup of collections, it can be presumed that Adipurush failed to meet the high expectations of trade circles because some biggies scored $ 2 Million in the first weekend with just one language release. Prabhas is a top-league actor and his stardom after Baahubali expanded like never before. So, the collections of Adipurush are very low for his box office stamina as it released in multiple languages.
Adipurush will need to sustain well from Monday onwards to put the buyers in a safe zone.
