Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898AD, directed by hotshot filmmaker Nag Ashwin, is releasing today in a record number of screens worldwide. Due to the extraordinary promotional campaign and engrossing content in teasers and trailers, the film generated an unprecedented hype in all territories. Trade circles are expecting a record-breaking start at the box office.
While the early reports from US premiere shows are mind-blowing, box-office records in several areas started to topple even before the completion of the first day.
As per the latest reports, Kalki 2898AD emerged as the highest grossing Indian film in North America on premieres day. The mythological action spectacle has surpassed the figures of SS Rajamouli’s patriotic drama RRR and Prashanth Neel’s epic actioner Salaar.
Reportedly, Kalki 2898AD punched out $ 3.6 Million dollars from Wednesday premieres and set a new record in North America. This is an unimaginable number for a non-Rajamouli film.
RRR collected $ 3.46 million dollars and Salaar amassed $ 2.6 million dollars there. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 held the record before the release of RRR with $ 2.45 million dollars.
Prabhas now has three films in the top four highest premieres in North America. He achieved the rare distinction of the highest grossing film under his belt without SS Rajamouli as director.
As Kalki 2898AD solo big-ticket film releasing after so many weeks, the first weekend numbers are going to be quite humongous. There are strong chances for the film to break so many records in all territories.
Trade analysts believe that the film will gross close to 200 Crores worldwide on its opening day.
