This year’s tentpole Indian film Kalki 2898AD, starring Baahubali fame Prabhas in the lead role, is creating a rampage at the North America box office in the opening weekend. Despite releasing on a non-holiday, the dystopian science fiction thriller has embarked on a phenomenal start in the USA and Canada. The film is on track to shatter numerous existing box office records.
After taking a sensational opening on premieres day with a record-breaking $3,859,967 dollars, the Nag Ashwin directional seems to be eyeing more records as it notched up $1,529,084 dollars on the first day. The total gross is now $5,416,085 ($5.41M) and stands in the second place after SS Rajamouli’s RRR which grossed $ 5.50 Million on its first day including premieres.
Kalki is now the fourth film in the $ 5 milion dollar club for Prabhas after Baahubali 1, Baahubali 2 and Salaar. Going by the current trend, Kalki will target more than $ 12 million in the long run as the word of mouth and reviews are promising.
The larger-than-life set-up and Nag Ashwin’s magnificent presentation helped the film garner unanimous reviews despite the narrative shortcomings and the protracted run time.
Kalki stars stellar cast in the form of Amithabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani and a host of other actors in cameo roles.
