The much-anticipated tentpole film of the season, Adipurush, a mythological extravaganza starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, and Saif Ali Khan as the prime antagonist is hitting the screens all over this Friday. Due to special permissions in Telugu States, Adipurush got early shows today morning along with the customary overseas Thursday premieres. Let’s find out what is the verdict from moviegoers.
Going by the talk emerging from Twitter, Adipurush is a mixed bag with as many negatives as positives in the entire film. The major liability of the film is as expected the protracted runtime of close to three hours. Movie critics have pointed out the drawn-out climax episode as the biggest setback for this modern tale of Ramayana. Also, the tacky and substandard VFX effects turned out to be a dampener for the film. Some unnecessary scenes are also said to be the major undoing aspect that hampered Adipurush from reaching its full potential.
The first half is fairly engaging with decent narration and visually appealing songs. The drama and establishment of all major characters have been executed convincingly. However, the narration veers off in the second half with lengthy scenes. The much-hyped climax fight sequence also turned out to be a tedious watch.
Prabhas deserves full credit for essaying the regal character with conviction. He is appropriate in the role of Lord Rama. But, the limited screen time might disappoint his fans. Kriti Sanon is also getting plaudits for her subdued performance as Sita. Surprisingly, Saif Ali Khan’s character didn’t much elevation from critics.
The music and background score are getting unanimous feedback from all quarters. There is nothing great to rave about Om Raut’s direction except for a few scenes. He should have taken more about the visuals and VFX work.
While the first half offers a decent watch, the second falters due to the lengthy runtime. Overall, Adipurush is likely to be a one-time watch film. However, the box office prospects depend on how it is accepted by the general audience. We have to wait till weekend to decide the film’s fate.
