After attaining pan-India popularity with the earth-shattering box office success of the Baahubali franchise, Telugu actor Prabhas failed to deliver the goods in the next three outings as they couldn’t live up to the massive expectations of both trade circles and moviegoers. His latest offering Adipurush completed a hat-trick of flops for him as the mythological drama saw a huge drop in collections from Monday onwards.
As per trade talk, Adipurush is heading towards emerging as a loss venture in every territory from North India to South India. In Overseas, the story is no different as the collections plummeted after a decent first weekend. The Om Raut directional embarked on a sensational start with more than 100 Crores gross on its opening day.
Despite not-so-encouraging word of mouth and scathing reviews, the film performed on par with the trade expectations at the domestic markets. However, the collections nosedived quite drastically from Monday onwards in all territories. There is no change in the trend of bookings since then and the run is likely to end very soon.
Adipurush showed signs of a strong haul in Hindi markets as it secured a phenomenal opening and followed it up with a strong hold till Sunday. Unfortunately, the numbers fell by more than 75% on Monday and thereby signalling a death blow for the film. It is unlikely the film will touch the 150 Crore net in North belts. It will incur a considerable amount of loss for all buyers.
In South India, Adipurush took an impressive opening in Prabhas’ homeland( Andhra and Telangana), but subsequently lost steam after the weekend in all areas. It will result in more than 40 Crores loss for its buyers in Telugu States.
In USA, the film is struggling to surpass the $ 3 Million even after completing the first week. It took a huge start with $ 1.5 Million from its first day including premieres. But, the collections fell significantly since then. In other overseas locations, the film performed at a moderate rate and is likely to end up as a loss venture for all parties involved in its business.
So, Adipurush is the third flop in a trot for Prabhas after Saaho and Radheshyam. The Om Raut directional is likely to incur close to 100 Crores loss from its theatricals. The film did a mammoth business of more than 250 Crores inclusive of all territories. It initially started very well than both Saaho and Radheshyam. However, the steep fall in collections since Monday indicated that the film is destined to end up as another debacle at the box office.
Up next, Prabhas is awaiting the release of his next film Salaar, a Prashanth Neel directional which is getting ready to hit the screens on September 28th.
