The family of Akkineni which used to be the epitome of success with back-to-back hit films during the times of the demised legend Akkineni Nageswar Rao has been facing a lean phase in recent times. Despite their hard trials, the three Akkineni heroes have faced three consecutive flops and tasted bitter experiences.
The Ghost which was released alongside Chiranjeevi’s Godfather in October ended up as below average since the subject is not appealing to the masses. Directed by Praveen V Satharu, the film despite having top-notch technical brilliance failed to impress the masses. Prior to that, his senior son Akkineni Naga Chaitanya who pinned huge hopes on ‘Thank You’ also tasted a flop. Directed by Vikram Kumar who gave a memorable film like ‘Manam’ to the Akkineni family, failed to utilize the craze of Chai as a classy hero. Cut to the present, the third film from the family, ‘Agent’ bagged flop talk right from the morning show. Directed by Surrender Reddy, critics to audiences declared the movie a dud since it failed to showcase anything better in any department despite Akhil’s hard work.
Still, the Akkineni heroes are not giving up their hard work as they are coming up with a few exciting projects. Nag is acting in a Malayalam remake directed by writer-turned-director Prasanna Kumar of ‘Dhamaka Fame’. Chai is testing his luck with ‘Custody’ and the promos are quite promising. Meanwhile, Akhil has okayed a movie with a newcomer from ‘UV Creations banner’ who worked for Saaho and Radhesyam. Hope these movies keep the Akkineni heroes back on track.
