Actor Sri Vishnu has spoken out against the recent controversy over the teaser of his next film Single, which created a debate with its satirical references to top stars and movies. One particular scene, which borrowed a line from the next devotional movie Kannappa and featured a line that seemed to ridicule actor Manchu Vishnu, faced heavy online criticism.
In a video clip, Sri Vishnu clarified that there was no malice intended in the teaser and apologized for any offense. “We did not intend to offend anyone. When we got to know the Kannappa crew was offended, we acted pronto. We are deleting the offensive scenes from both the teaser and the final version of the movie,” he announced, stressing he was willing to put the problem behind him.
The Single teaser does contain tongue-in-cheek references to well-known personalities like Balakrishna, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, and the movie Animal. But it was the spoof of Kannappa, a devotional movie yet to come out, that provided the kernel for the controversy. People felt that it was unseemly to parody a movie of such religious significance before its official release.
In spite of the criticism, Sri Vishnu’s prompt and sincere reaction served to soften the issue, and the controversy was soon laid to rest.
With the release date of Single on May 9 drawing near, Single is creating a lot of buzz, especially among the youth, due to its new and light-hearted tone. The trailer of the film has already gained attention, and with the impending competition from Samantha’s Shubham and the re-release of Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, the team is stepping up promotional activities to make Single a standout in a crowded market.
