The two-day intensive review of cases related to election-related offenses reported on May 13 and 14 has concluded. This review and the investigation were carried out by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Inspector General of Police (IG) rank officer Vineet Brijlal. According to sources, the SIT chief is expected to submit a final report on the investigation to DGP Harish Kumar Gupta on Monday, who will then forward it to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The 13-member SIT, divided into four teams, visited four different locations in three districts—Palnadu, Tirupati, and Anantapur—on Saturday and Sunday. These areas experienced violence on the day of polling (May 13) and in the aftermath. During their investigation, the SIT officials reviewed the status of ongoing investigations, examined the causes of the violence, and identified those involved in the riots.
A total of 33 cases registered in connection with the election-day offenses and post-poll incidents in the three districts were reviewed. The SIT officials gathered detailed information, suggested alterations to the legal charges, and examined evidence such as CCTV footage. They also collected statements from victims, eyewitnesses, and other relevant parties.
The SIT was constituted by the DGP on Friday, following directions from the ECI, and began their investigation on Saturday by visiting the violence-hit areas in Palnadu, Anantapur, and Tirupati.
