Mumbai’s high-end dining scene has long been dominated by Shilpa Shetty’s flagship restaurant, Bastian, and writer Shobhaa De recently offered an insider’s perspective on its staggering scale and success. Speaking to Mojo Story, she described the restaurant as a marvel of modern hospitality, noting both its luxurious interiors and its remarkable capacity to cater to large crowds.
“Some aspects of Mumbai continue to amaze me,” Shobhaa De said. “There’s a restaurant here that generates ₹2-3 crore in revenue per night. On normal days, it earns around ₹2 crore, and weekends bring in ₹3 crore. Initially, I thought the figures were exaggerated, but I heard them firsthand. And it’s not just any restaurant—it’s Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian. Stepping inside, I was genuinely shocked.”
Shobhaa highlighted the restaurant’s scale, revealing that it can accommodate approximately 1,400 guests, with two expansive dining halls capable of seating 700 diners at a time. The combination of size, design, and meticulous service has contributed to its sustained popularity among Mumbai’s elite and visiting patrons.
Recently, Shilpa Shetty announced that the Bandra location will be closed and relocated to Juhu as the Bastian Beach Club. She stressed that while additional branches may open, the Bandra outlet will always remain the restaurant’s original and flagship establishment. The move underscores Bastian’s unique status as a trailblazer in Mumbai’s luxury dining segment, and the announcement has already sparked excitement among food enthusiasts and loyal patrons.
