Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who struck a strong chord in Bollywood with Kabir Singh and Animal, finds himself in the midst of yet another buzz again—this time because of the furore over his next release Spirit. The film hasn’t even gone on floors as yet, but the drama and hype about it are already creating ripples.
Initially, top Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was on board as the female lead in Spirit. However, she unexpectedly opted out, sparking rumors and heated speculation. Reports emerged that Deepika walked away from the project due to certain conditions not being met and alleged creative disagreements. Following her exit, Triptii Dimri, who impressed audiences in Animal, was roped in to play the lead role.
Soon after, a series of stories began surfacing in the media, hinting that Deepika’s decision was prompted by the inclusion of bold scenes in the script. Some even accused Sandeep of being unprofessional. These coordinated reports were seen as part of a deliberate PR campaign to target the director.
Not one to stay silent, Sandeep Reddy Vanga took to X (formerly Twitter) late Monday night to hit back. Without directly naming anyone, he issued a sharp and unapologetic response, making his stance crystal clear:
“When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There’s an unsaid NDA between us. But by doing this, you’ve ‘disclosed’ the kind of person you are.
Putting down a younger actor and discarding my story—is this what your feminism stands for?
As a filmmaker, I put years of hard work behind my craft & for me, filmmaking is everything
You didn’t get it. You won’t get it. You will never get it.
Aisa karo…. Agli baar poori kahani bolna… kyunki mujhe jarra bhi farak nahi padtha.

His bold reaction has gone viral, with many netizens and film lovers rallying behind him. The drama has only intensified anticipation for Spirit, which now seems set to be one of the most discussed films in the coming months—even before shooting begins.
