Exactly an year ago, KGF director Prashanth Neel and Baahubali actor Prabhas took the box office by a storm with their commercial potboiler Salaar. The film took an earth-shattering start and later went on to emerge as a big hit at the box office. On the eve of the film’s first anniversary, Neel interacted with a popular journalist to share his experience in writing the story of Salaar and what is in store with the second part.
Neel revealed that Prabhas brought in a new perspective towards the relationship between Varadha and Deva and his inputs strongly influenced the narrative. He further added that Prabhas doesn’t look for high points but always craves for drama and how the story starts and ends. Neel refused to open up completely on this aspect to maintain the suspense till the release of the second part.
Neel said the most intriguing part of Salaar is how the best friends turned into biggest enemies. “I don’t feel whole with Salaar because I haven’t narrated the second part and I wish to tell it in a more engaging manner. The best bits of my writing is why they have to separate and become enemies. I am banking on that particular moment rather than all other episodes”, added Neel during the interaction.
He said the best moment is Salaar was when both Deva and Varadha comeback and hug after 25 years. When the content is well executed, there is no bigger satisfaction for the director, opined Neel.
Talking about the introduction of Prabhas in Salaar, Neel opened up that he never wanted to make it purely commercial as such an attempt wouldn’t have conveyed the content in the story. He also admitted that some episodes were included just to give a cinematic high for the viewers.
Neel clarified that the drama in Salaar has no relation with his film Ugramm but happens in the same time frame. He further admitted that he is not completely happy with the theatrical reception of Salaar and confidently stated that Salaar 2 will undoubtedly be one of his best works.
The confidence with which Neel has stated these words hints that he has saved his best for the second part of Salaar. As Prabhas is currently busy with multiple commitments, Salaar 2 is likely to roll out next year.
