Ram Gopal Varma Criticizes Street Dog Relocation Proposals

Thursday, December 4, 2025

Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has voiced strong criticism regarding the ongoing debate over the relocation of street dogs in India. In his latest statement, Varma questioned the effectiveness of relocating street dogs, calling it an illusion rather than a real solution. He suggested that instead of advocating for relocation, dog lovers should consider keeping the animals in their guest rooms if they care so much about them. According to Varma, moving dogs from one street to another does not resolve the issue and merely shifts the problem.

Varma’s comments were made on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he pointed out the widespread misconception surrounding the issue. He explained that relocating street dogs often leads to new dogs occupying the space, and in some cases, even more dangerous ones. With nearly 70 million street dogs in the country, Varma questioned the practicality of the relocation proposals, asking, “Where do you plan to send these millions of dogs?”

The director further criticized the hypocrisy of some dog lovers, accusing them of being disconnected from the real issues faced by poorer sections of society, who are often the ones directly affected by street dog problems. Varma emphasized that if people truly care about dogs, they should open their guest rooms for them instead of pushing relocation as a solution. He also warned against offering relocation advice while keeping their own homes and families protected from the issue.
