Following the failure of Liger and Double iSmart, stylish director Puri Jagannadh is now preparing for his next film. It is reported that he has read out a script to action hero Gopichand, and if everything goes as planned, an official announcement can be made soon. This possible combination has generated buzz among fans, as the two had worked together earlier on the action thriller Golimaar. Though it has a potent storyline and fashion-forward presentation, however, Golimaar didn’t gain as much commercial appeal as expected.
Interestingly, there were previous rumormills which mentioned Puri Jagannadh collaborating with Nandamuri Balakrishna on a film. It was rumored that Puri had a mass action entertainer up his sleeve for Balayya and that fans were waiting to see this pairing happen. Recent reports, however, point towards the director shifting gears and instead looking at collaborating with Gopichand. Although no official announcement has been made, trade chatter indicates that talks are far along.
Meanwhile, Puri’s most recent directorial, Double iSmart, starring Ram Pothineni, failed to meet expectations at the box office. Unlike his previous successes, the film was criticized for lacking strong content and engaging storytelling. Many fans felt that Double iSmart did not carry the same energy and impactful narration that Puri’s earlier films were known for. Against this background, there is now a high level of expectation about what kind of tale Puri has woven for Gopichand. Is he going back to his trademark suspenseful stories and forceful dialogues, or does he attempt something very different?
