PM Modi Takes On Congress Emergency Anniversary

Friday, November 22, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday criticized the Congress for imposing the Emergency in 1975, accusing the then government of disregarding democratic principles to retain power and turning the nation into a jail. “Today, we pay homage to those who resisted the Emergency. The #DarkDaysOfEmergency remind us how the Congress subverted basic freedoms and trampled the Constitution, which every Indian respects greatly,” Modi wrote on X.

He further stated that the Congress government tortured and harassed anyone who disagreed with them, and implemented socially regressive policies targeting the weakest sections. “Those who imposed the Emergency have no right to profess their love for our Constitution. These are the same people who have repeatedly misused Article 356, enacted laws to suppress press freedom, undermined federalism, and violated every aspect of the Constitution,” Modi added.
