New Delhi: Opposition legislators, who were suspended from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the past week, staged a protest march on Thursday morning. The march, spanning from the old Parliament building to Vijay Chowk in central Delhi, covered about a kilometer. Participants carried a prominent “Save Democracy” banner and placards with messages such as “Opposition MPs Suspended! Is This The End of Democracy?” and “Parliament Caged, Democracy Expelled!”
This demonstration occurs amidst a heated dispute between certain opposition factions and the ruling BJP regarding the expulsion of over 140 MPs for what was deemed “unruly conduct.” The opposition members had vociferously demanded answers from the government regarding a security breach in Parliament the previous week, which coincided with the 22nd anniversary of a terrorist attack on the old building that resulted in the loss of nine lives.
