Prominent Tollywood lyricist Dr. Vaddepalli Krishna (76) passed away. He was suffering from illness for a few days and breathed his last on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at Nims Hospital. He was born in a weaver family in Sircilla town of Rajanna Sirisilla district and later settled in Nagole, Hyderabad.
He played an active role in the Telangana statehood agitation. After the formation of Telangana state, his song `Jaya Jaya Telangana’ dance drama became popular and played all over Telangana. Only two days ago, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Telugu Film Writers Association.
He started his career as a postman in government service. He is very admirar of Dr C Narayana Reddy’s works. Krishna has revealed in the past that he entered the film industry taking inspiration from Dr Narayana Reddy only.
Krishna became a writer for the movie ‘Rachaitri’ directed by Bhanumathi Ramakrishna. The release of this movie was delayed and his next movie ‘Pilla Zamindar’ was released before this, so this movie went into the records as his first movie.
Vaddepalli Krishna also directed two movies. Saikumar acted as the hero in the film ‘Ekkedi veduthundo Manasu’ directed by him. He also directed `Lavanya with Loveboys’, which was released in 2017. He also made a documentary film called Gobhagyam on the endangered cows. The film won prizes at the International Short Film Festival.
He made documentaries like Bathukamma, Atmahathyalu, Netannalu and received special jury awards at the national level. Hundreds of beautiful songs written by him were broadcasted on Akashvani and Doordarshan. He wrote more than 40 choreographies. Published many books.
On television, he directed serials like Bhakta Kavi Potana and Bharatiya Sanskrit Shikhara and impressed the television audience. Krishna is known as a multi-talented writer, director, commentator, and chairman of Nandi Awards Committee, jury member of International Children’s Film Festival, singer and song program judge.
