The ‘Pan-India’ phenomenon struck South cinema ever since the massive success of Baahubali across the country. Since then, many films from regional languages saw sweeping success in the North circuit. All star heroes and top-league filmmakers from South India jumped on the bandwagon one after another. Every big-ticket film from South is labelled as a pan-India film nowadays.
While male stars from Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada film industries are quite elated with this trend as it helps them garner craze and fandom across the country and also spread their market beyond their home turf, it is unfortunate that heroines from South are being ignored in pan-India films.
Filmmakers are preferring to cast Bollywood heroines in big-budget pan-India films. If we look at some of the upcoming tentpole films like Project K, Adipurush, NTR30, Ram Charan – Shankar project to name a few, Bollywood divas like Deepika Padukone, Kriti Sanon, Janhvi Kapoor, and Kiara Advani are roped in as the female leads in them. Further, it is heard that some more upcoming pan-India films will also feature Bollywood heroines only.
Directors feel that Bollywood heroines will bring more craze and attention to their projects. So, they are opting for lady stars who are famous all over the country. It seems like leading South heroines like Samantha, Pooja Hegde, Rashmika, Nayanatara, Anushka, and Keerthi Suresh are being confined to regional films only.
