Mani Ratnam’s recent release, Ponniyin Selvan-II has been going strong at the box office ever since its release on April 28. The epic historical drama which is a sequel to the blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan-I has now bagged another achievement and it’s amazing.
And that special news is that the film with storming box office collections joined the Rs. 200 crore club. Yes, you heard it right! The film crosses over Rs. 200 crores within five days of its initial release.
Sharing the same, the makers of PS, Lyca Productions took to their official Twitter handle and wrote- ‘Breaking barriers and conquering the globe! #PS2 soars high and crosses over 200 crores worldwide! #PS2RunningSuccessfully #CholasAreBack.’
As we know that Ponniyin Selvan is a dream project for the ace South filmmaker Mani Ratnam as he was adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 popular novel under the same title.
Financed by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies jointly, Ponniyin Selvan has a stellar cast with Trisha, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobitha Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others in key roles.
The first installment of this popular franchise has released in 2022 with a grossing of Rs. 500 crores worldwide. Breaking several box office records, PS-1 even became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022 and the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.
So, with this rate, we can say that the second installment will also join the Rs. 500 crore club in the meantime.
