Tollywood actor Manchu Vishnu has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the quashing of a case registered against him for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2019 general elections.
The Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice B.V. Nagarathna, took up the matter for preliminary hearing on Tuesday. After hearing initial arguments, the bench issued notices to the respondents and adjourned further proceedings to July 15.
The case dates back to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, during which Manchu Vishnu was accused of breaching election regulations. In his petition, the actor requested that the charges against him be dropped, stating that they were unfounded.
The court is expected to examine the full case details, including the evidence submitted and arguments from both sides, during the next hearing. The revival of the nearly five-year-old case in the Supreme Court has attracted attention from both film and political circles.
