Manchu Vishnu Calls Kannappa His Career’s Defining Film, Credits Success to Mohan Babu

Friday, December 5, 2025
Actor-producer Manchu Vishnu has described Kannappa as the most significant project of his two-decade-long film career, calling it his true visiting card in cinema. Speaking at the film’s success meet held in Hyderabad, Vishnu became emotional while reflecting on the challenges faced during production and expressed heartfelt gratitude to his father, veteran actor Mohan Babu, whom he credited entirely for the film’s success.
Release Delayed on Ram Gopal Varma’s Advice
Vishnu revealed that the film was originally scheduled for an April release, but the decision to postpone was taken following a remark by director Ram Gopal Varma. “Writer BVS Ravi saw the rough cut and said it was impressive even without the graphics. RGV, however, questioned, ‘Would someone like Vishnu, who put in so much effort, compromise on VFX?’ That made me rethink our timeline. I delayed the release and chose to focus further on enhancing the visual effects,” Vishnu said.
VFX Setbacks Led to Creative Compromises
While speaking about the technical aspects, Vishnu admitted that the film’s VFX did not meet the envisioned standards in certain segments, leading to the removal of a few powerful scenes. “This was a major learning experience. I will not repeat such a mistake again. Fortunately, the strength of the story and emotional depth ensured that audiences remained engaged,” he noted. Vishnu added that a key emotional scene in the film was inspired by witnessing his father’s pain during his grandfather’s final days.
Prabhas’ Presence Boosted Film’s Opening
Vishnu credited superstar Prabhas for contributing significantly to the film’s strong box office opening. “The narrative shifts after Sharath Kumar’s scene, but it is Prabhas’ star power that brought audiences to the theatres. I will remain indebted to him for life,” he said. He also spoke about the personal and financial struggles he endured during the film’s making, expressing gratitude to his father and wife for their unwavering support throughout the process.
No Sequel, But Prequel Under Consideration
Addressing speculation about a sequel, Vishnu confirmed that there are no plans for a follow-up. However, he revealed that discussions have taken place about a potential prequel based on Kannappa’s life before he turned a believer. He also disclosed that no OTT deal was finalised ahead of the release, but expressed confidence in negotiating a favourable deal following the film’s theatrical success.
Vishnu concluded by appealing to audiences to watch the film in theatres and support the industry’s efforts against piracy. “We are doing our part to combat piracy. This cinematic experience is best enjoyed on the big screen,” he said.
