The Malayalam film industry, which made waves last year with several low-budget films achieving record-breaking collections, continues to deliver cinematic magic this year. Leading the charge is Kothaloka, the Telugu version of the hit Malayalam film Loka Chapter 1 – Chandra. The film has garnered attention for its unique premise and stellar performances, marking a new milestone in female-led superhero cinema.
Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role, Kothaloka has been produced by Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Dominic Arun. The film’s high-octane VFX sequences reportedly cost around ₹30 crore, contributing to its grand visual appeal. Released on August 28, the movie has already amassed over ₹300 crore in box office collections within 40 days, underscoring its runaway success and popularity among audiences.
After weeks of speculation regarding its OTT release, the makers have confirmed that Kothaloka will be available for streaming on Jio Hotstar from October 31. The story revolves around Chandra, a young woman who arrives in Bengaluru and takes up a modest job. She rents a house where she encounters Sunny, who gradually falls in love with her, unaware of the extraordinary secrets she harbors.
The narrative takes a compelling turn when Sunny discovers that Chandra possesses superpowers. The film delves into the origin of these powers and Chandra’s mysterious past, driving the story’s intrigue and emotional core. With a combination of strong performances, cutting-edge visual effects, and an engaging plot, Kothaloka is set to capture the attention of audiences on the OTT platform as it did at the box office.
