Lokesh Kanagaraj became one of the top filmmakers in India very quickly. After making a notable debut with Maanagaram, and after it was his Kaithi, featuring Karthi, that saw him rise to stardom instantly, becoming an overnight sensation. The success of Master followed, along with Vikram, where he teamed up with Kamal Haasan, and managed to establish his own cinematic universe that took the industry by storm.
With a list of successful movies such as Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, Lokesh has solidly established himself as one of the greatest filmmakers in Indian cinema. His movies have left their mark and now, many Telugu movie buffs are looking forward to joint ventures with their favorite stars.
Currently, Lokesh is entirely concentrating on his next project, Coolie, which has Superstar Rajinikanth in it and is going for release on August 14. After releasing Coolie, Lokesh’s future schedule is chock-a-block, and it is doubtful that we will be watching him collaborate with Tollywood stars anytime soon. Following Coolie, Lokesh will be on the sets of Kaithi 2, starring Karthi, and it is going to roll out in the next 8 months.
In addition to Kaithi 2, Lokesh has other exciting projects lined up. He is working on a film with Arun Matheswaran and has a highly anticipated superhero film with Bollywood Aamir Khan. With such a busy schedule, it could be another two years before Lokesh takes on any new projects.
Lokesh himself mentioned that during the shoot of Coolie, he had a conversation with Rajinikanth about future collaborations, confirming his continued work with the superstar.
As for Coolie, the film features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. If Coolie succeeds, along with his Bollywood venture with Aamir Khan, Lokesh could solidify his position as one of the leading directors in both South Indian cinema and Bollywood.
