Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has made a bold prediction, suggesting that a coalition of regional parties could potentially form a government in the upcoming elections. In an interview with NDTV, KCR expressed confidence in his party’s performance, anticipating a double-digit seat tally out of Telangana’s 17 constituencies. He hinted at a paradigm shift, indicating that major alliances such as the NDA or INDIA might end up supporting these regional entities, rather than the other way around.
Despite his party’s past success, winning nine out of Telangana’s 17 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, and his decade-long tenure as the state’s chief minister since its formation in 2014, there has been speculation about the decline of KCR’s influence. This speculation has been fueled by the Congress’ significant victory in the state Assembly elections last year, where they secured a majority independently, winning 64 out of 119 seats. This has led to discussions about the diminishing stature of the BRS, a sentiment reinforced by several high-profile defections from the party.
