The Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC), Rajiv Kumar, announced in Kolkata on Tuesday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will engage central agencies in overseeing the polling process nationwide during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Kumar stated that a dedicated portal involving all central agencies will be established for enhanced vigilance. Furthermore, Kumar revealed the introduction of a mobile application named ‘C-Vigil: Citizens be Vigilant,’ designed to facilitate prompt reporting of any election-related irregularities or violence by users.
The CEC mentioned that the ECI’s full Bench, during their visit to West Bengal, held meetings with all political parties. Sources from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) West Bengal indicated that the ECI will implement special measures to prevent the utilization of black money in the elections. To enforce this, the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will also be mobilized, they added.
