YSR Congress president and Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy unveiled the list of candidates following a tribute-paying ceremony to his late father and former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district. With the exception of the Anakapalli Lok Sabha seat, the ruling party has finalized its candidate selection. YSRCP, which secured 151 Assembly and 22 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, faces a formidable challenge from the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance this election cycle.
Except for seven incumbent MPs, the YSRCP has either replaced or reassigned the others, shifting some to Assembly seats. Similarly, over 60 incumbent MLAs have been replaced, fielded for Lok Sabha elections, or assigned different Assembly constituencies. Expressing satisfaction, Jagan Mohan Reddy, who seeks re-election from the Pulivendula Assembly constituency, highlighted the party’s commitment to social justice by allocating 50 percent of tickets to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Castes, and Minorities. He hailed this as a landmark moment in the annals of Andhra Pradesh politics.
