As May 1 approaches, attention once again turns to the distribution of pensions, which has been marred by issues in April. Despite the Election Commission’s directive to deliver pensions to homes, opposition parties claim that the government distributed them at secretariats, leading to complaints about the lack of accessibility and resulting in unfortunate deaths due to heat among elderly recipients.
In response to these concerns, TDP chief Chandrababu held a press conference today, urging the government to adhere to the EC’s instructions and ensure pension distribution at recipients’ homes. He emphasized the feasibility of this approach, pointing to the availability of officers, secretariats, and operational mechanisms.
Chandrababu also raised suspicions about the involvement of Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy, Dhananjaya Reddy from the CMO, and Muralidhar Reddy, CEO of SERP, in perpetuating the same flawed distribution system. He noted efforts by the NDA to raise the issue with the Election Commission and Governor, advocating for corrective action.
Highlighting the resources available at the village level, including personnel from various departments equipped with fingerprint and iris detection systems, Chandrababu stressed the importance of heeding the Election Commission’s directives to prevent a recurrence of past incidents.
