CEC Rajiv Kumar announced that the general elections were successfully conducted in seven phases across the country. A record-breaking 64.2 crore Indians voted in these elections, setting a new milestone for India. This number is 1.5 times greater than the combined population of G7 countries, including the US, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, and Italy. Kumar highlighted that 31.2 crore women voted, marking the highest female voter turnout in the world.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, re-polling occurred in only 39 seats, compared to 540 places in 2019. The highest voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir in the past four decades was also noted. Remarkably, these elections were conducted without any violence, a result of a two-year strategic plan.
Approximately 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were deployed for the recent elections. The logistics included around four lakh vehicles, 135 special trains, and 1,692 air services. Addressing social media comments labeling election commissioners as ‘lapata gentlemen,’ Kumar asserted that they were present and fully engaged.
During the elections, Rs 10,000 crore worth of cash was seized, along with a substantial amount of drugs. There were 495 complaints of model code of conduct violations, with 90% resolved immediately. Notices were issued to top leaders, and FIRs were filed against several individuals to ensure a smooth election process. Efforts to control deep fake and AI-based content were largely successful.
