Hyderabad: K. Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and an MLC from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) following raids at her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15. The arrest was made under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case. Kavitha allegedly evaded previous ED summonses, citing a pending Supreme Court petition seeking protection from arrest and challenging the summonses.
She argued that investigating agencies should question women solely at their residences, referencing a precedent. Despite this, she had appeared before the ED in New Delhi three times. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) subsequently named her as an accused in the case after interrogating her as a witness. Kavitha’s arrest comes amid ongoing investigations into the liquor scam, highlighting the intensifying legal scrutiny surrounding the matter and raising questions about her involvement in the alleged financial irregularities.
