Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape is witnessing a major storm as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) speeds up its probe into the alleged liquor scam that reportedly occurred during the YSRCP government’s tenure. The investigation, which has been ongoing for nearly ten months, is now zeroing in on prominent leaders within the party, triggering high levels of political tension across the state.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy has been summoned for questioning today (Thursday) by the SIT. Meanwhile, current YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy has also received a formal notice and is expected to appear before the team tomorrow (Friday). These developments come after crucial evidence reportedly surfaced during a series of recent raids, making these upcoming interrogations all the more critical.
In another twist, the SIT has reissued notices to Raj Kasireddy, who has already ignored three previous summons. Authorities have now served a notice to his father, as Kasireddy continues to stay out of reach. Simultaneously, searches have intensified across Hyderabad, targeting Kasireddy’s known properties, including offices, relatives’ homes, and a hospital believed to be linked to investments under his wife’s name. During the operations, SIT officials also questioned Kasireddy’s father, Upender Reddy.
Adding to the momentum, the SIT has now called in liquor distributors for questioning. Sources indicate that these individuals may be interrogated alongside Mithun Reddy to uncover deeper connections within the alleged scam network.
Although Mithun Reddy has secured temporary protection from arrest through the Supreme Court, he has been instructed to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation. Raj Kasireddy, on the other hand, has been given one more opportunity — the SIT has asked him to appear before them on April 19. His repeated no-shows are raising eyebrows and intensifying public curiosity.
According to allegations, the liquor scam may have caused massive financial damage to the state exchequer, running into thousands of crores. With the SIT digging deeper and high-profile names being summoned, the political fallout could be significant.
As the probe tightens, Andhra Pradesh awaits major revelations that could reshape the narrative ahead of the upcoming elections.
