The first Monday collections are a pointer to the overall box office performance of any film irrespective of its budget. This why trade circles eagerly await first Monday numbers to gauge the commercial status of the films that release every Friday
Vijay Devarakonda’s Kushi, which released last Friday, grossed over 60 Crores in the first weekend. Because of chartbuster songs and impressive trailers, the film took a strong opening in Nizam and USA. But, the collections in the remaining territories are not up to the mark. To put its buyers in a profit zone, the film requires a decent hold on weekdays.
But, collections nosedived by more than 80 percent on the first Monday which signalled a death knell for the film. The huge drop on Monday added more substance to the fact that the film secured mixed reports. Torrential rains in Telugu States impacted the collections to some extent. But, the underwhelming word of mouth seems to have a final say on the film.
As per trade reports, the total share in Telugu States on Monday is less than one crore. The film requires considerable revenues in the this week in Andhra and Ceeded regions. That looks highly impossible given the huge fall on Monday. In Naizam and USA, the strong first weekend might help its buyers escape unscathed.
Kushi will face a huge challenge in the coming days because films like Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty and Jawan are slated for release on Friday.
On the whole, it seems like Kushi will yield mixed results for its buyers with good profits in some locations and big losses in others.
