Accusing that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has no right to question the debts incurred by the Telangana state government,
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao was deeply angry that if 14 prime ministers have borrowed Rs 56 lakh crore in 65 years since independence, then the BJP government, which has borrowed Rs 125 lakh crore in just ten years from 2014 to 2024, has no moral right to talk about debts.
In an open letter to the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who accused the Telangana state government of turning the surplus state’ into `debt ridden’, he recalled that Telangana was a surplus budget state even when Telangana was forcibly merged with Andhra. He wanted to remember that even when Telangana was formed in 2014, the state had debts of about Rs 70,000 crore.
KTR also stated that even after ten years of BRS rule, Telangana was handed over to the Congress as a surplus budget state. He said that it is not right to link the actual debts with the surplus budget. He clarified that it is not right to try to portray a state as backward just because it has debts. He said that the most crucial thing is what the debts incurred were spent on.
KTR reminded that the entire country has seen that the BRS government has transformed every penny of its debt into investment and brought about revolutionary changes on the land of Telangana in the last ten years.
He said that there is no way to say what the NDA government at the center has done with the Rs. 125 lakh crore debt brought in in ten years, but he said that with the debt brought by the Telangana government, they have built ambitious projects that will permanently eradicate the drinking and irrigation water problems that have plagued this land for decades.
KTR revealed that the Telangana society knows that these funds were used to permanently dispel the darkness that haunted the agriculture and industrial sectors, and on the other hand, to build huge power plants, and on the other hand, to create world-class infrastructure in the state, and the people of the state are seeing their results.
KTR said that they strongly condemn the attempt to misrepresent the debt incurred under the FRBM limit during the BRS regime. He asked the Union Minister to remember that like the central government the loans taken are not used to waive off lakhs of crores of loans of corporate powers.
