NTR’s Devara, which initially started off as a straight film, was later truncated into two parts presumably for commercial gains to take advantage of the ongoing trend of sequels in Tollywood. Both NTR and director Koratala Siva revealed that they had to split the story because of its expansiveness and to narrate it in a more effective manner. However, the idea turned out be a big liability because the second half of Devara didn’t impress the majority of moviegoers and impacted the word of mouth.
Now, the question is when will Devara 2 go on floors. NTR is currently busy shooting for his Bollywood debut War 2. He has already lined up a film with Prashanth Neel and the regular shooting will commence once NTR wraps up War 2. After these two projects, NTR is planning to work with a couple of Tamil directors for his future films. So, it is clear that Devara 2 will on go on sets in the near future.
In all probability, Devara 2 will start only after two years and that too if NTR feels it is important for him to work on the sequel compared to other projects. So, Koratala Siva will need to wait till 2026 to start the shoot and the sequel might release only three or four years from now.
This is similar to KGF director Prashanth Neel’s story after Salaar. The Prabhas starrer also initially started a single part action saga but later changed to a franchise. The first part received a strong response at the box office. However, the second part hasn’t commenced yet as Prabhas is occupied with his other commitments. Meanwhile, Neel also moved onto NTR’s film.
Prabhas has Raja Saab, Kalki 2 and Fauji on the horizon. So, there is no clarity on when he will allot dates for Salaar 2.
Similarly, Koratala Siva might also need to wait longer than expected to work on the sequel of Devara due to NTR’s commitments.
