Telugu Grandmaster Koneru Humpy has once again proven her mettle by securing the Rapid Chess World Championship title at the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship. With an impressive score of 8.5 points, Humpy claimed the top position, adding another feather to her illustrious career. This marks her second triumph in the tournament, having previously won in 2019. She now stands alongside Chinese Grandmaster Ju Wenjun as one of the few players to win the title multiple times. Fellow Telugu Grandmaster Dronavalli Harika secured the fifth position in the event.
Men’s Division Results
In the men’s category, India’s Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi, who dominated the leaderboard after nine rounds, faltered in the final stages. The Rapid Chess event was ultimately won by 18-year-old Russian Grandmaster Volodar Murzin, who scored 10 points to emerge victorious. Arjun finished in fifth place with 9 points.
