The prestigious central government-led 69th National Awards revealed their results in various departments of films and the most talented Tamil Industry got no awards in any category despite having critically acclaimed films thereby disappointing both the Kollywood people and Tamil fans.
Superstar Suriya who bagged the National Award with the cult film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ last year raised the bar with the critically applauded OTT classic ‘Jai Bhim’ which spoke about fake cases but the movie failed to get an award in any department, forget the best actor male. Coming next is the most hyped movie ‘Karnan’ directed by Mari Selvaraj starring the dynamic hero Dhanush spoke about the oppressed community and their struggles. Both the movie and Dhanush got many accolades making the movie buffs expect a National Award as well. Last but not least, the director Pa Ranjith’s recent classic ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ which depicted the lifestyle of North Madras and local sentiments also failed to impress the jury of the awards committee.
The only consolation prize for the Tamil Industry was the movie ‘Kadaisi Vivasayi’ which got the Best Tamil Movie award but at the regional level. Needless to say, the supporters of Kollywood are expressing their distress over the National Awards on all social media platforms.
