The Karnataka government has issued a draft notification proposing a cap of ₹200 on movie ticket prices across the state, inclusive of entertainment tax. The pricing limit will apply uniformly to all films, irrespective of language, and across all theatre formats, including single screens and multiplexes.
As per the notification, stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to submit objections or suggestions within 15 days.
The decision follows Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s announcement during the 2025–26 Budget session in March, where the government outlined key measures to support the film industry while making cinema more accessible to the general public. At the time, the Chief Minister stated that the ₹200 cap would be applicable to all shows across all theatres in the state.
The government clarified that the move is aimed at promoting inclusivity in entertainment and ensuring that cinema remains within reach of ordinary citizens.
The draft notification marks a formal step in implementing the policy and is expected to bring more transparency and affordability to the state’s film exhibition sector.
