Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar, who was recently hospitalized for an alleged suicide attempt, breaks silence on the ongoing rumors, saying it was not a suicide attempt.
After a day of her hospitalization, the singer revealed that she had accidentally taken an overdose of sleeping pills as she was unable to sleep due to insomnia. According to the police, Kalpana and her husband have been living in a gated community in Nizampet for the past five years.
Denying the rumors about the suicide attempt, she revealed to police that on March 3, she had a disagreement with her daughter Daya Prasad regarding her studies. While Kalpana preferred that her daughter study in Hyderabad, the latter refused, leading to the differences between them. The following day, on March 4, Kalpana travelled from Ernakulam to Hyderabad. Struggling with insomnia, she initially took eight sleeping pills and later consumed ten more, which caused her to lose consciousness.
Concerned by her unresponsiveness, her husband and neighbors alerted the police, who entered the residence and found her unconscious. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Following her recovery, Kalpana’s daughter addressed the media, stating, “She is perfectly fine, happy, and healthy now. She is a singer; she is doing her LLB and also doing her PhD. Because of that, she has insomnia. To treat her insomnia, her doctor prescribed her a tablet, and she had consumed that in an overdose. It’s not a suicide attempt; it’s just a slight overdose because of stress. Please do not manipulate any information. My family is perfectly fine. My mom and dad are very happy. She will be back in a few days.”
