In what could be a major blow to the release plans of Prabhas’ highly anticipated tentpole film ‘Kalki 2898AD’, the Loksabha elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are scheduled to be held on May 13th. It is a known fact that the makers of Kalki zeroed in on May 9th as the release date. Despite numerous speculations that the film might be postponed due to the delay in its production formalities, the team has maintained that there won’t be any change in the release date and went ahead with the filming at a rapid pace.
Today evening, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the much-awaited 2024 Loksabha polls. The polling will be held in seven phases across the country. In Telugu States, the elections are scheduled to be held on May 13th. While AP will have both assembly and parliament elections, Telangana will have parliament elections.
This announcement came as a big shocker for the makers of Kalki because they were expecting that elections in the Telugu States would conclude in April itself. So, they are now in a fix as the elections will take place just four days after the film’s release.
With elections round the corner all over the country, moviegoers might not show much interest in films. This will adversely impact the openings of Kalki 2898AD. Moreover, they cannot get approval for ticket hikes and additional screenings as the government will have no power due to the existence of an election code.
So, it looks like a new release date for Kalki 2898AD will be out shortly. As of now, the release plans for May 9th look highly impossible.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki stars an ensemble cast in the form of Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani and Kamal Haasan in significant roles.
