It’s official: Thalapathy teams up with flop director

Kollywood Superstar Thalapathy Vijay announced his 68th film this Sunday afternoon. As speculated in the media, Vijay will join forces with Tamil director Venkat Prabhu for his next film ‘Thalapathy68’ after wrapping up his current project ‘Leo’ under the direction of Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Venkat Prabhu is coming off from a huge box office turkey in the form of Naga Chaitanya’s Custody. The bilingual film left no trace at the box office either in Tamil or Telugu. But, Venkat Prabhu convinced Vijay with an exciting script. The regular shooting is expected to commence once Vijay is done with Leo.

A special video has been unveiled to announce this crazy project. In the one-minute video, an unidentified person, presumably Thalapathy Vijay, is seen marking the names of the cast and crew in a jumbled crossword puzzle. He starts by revealing the name of the production house behind this project and then followed by music composer and director’s names. Then he highlights the lead protagonist’s name.

There is no other update about the genre and other important details. However, it seems like Venkat Prabhu is going to deliver a mass thriller in his signature style. Yuvan Shankar Raja is on board for this exciting project to score the soundtrack. AGS Entertainment banner will bankroll the film.

There were rumours that Vijay will team up with Telugu director Gopichand Malineni for his next project. However, the project didn’t materialise beyond discussion stages due to unknown reasons. Atlee’s name also surfaced in Kollywood circles some time back as a potential forerunner to helm Vijay’s next. However, it is Venkat Prabhu who bagged the golden opportunity.
