Ilaiyaraaja has slapped a legal notice on the makers of the widely acclaimed film “Manjummel Boys,” directed by Chidambaram, for the unauthorized use of his composition. This surprising turn of events has put the film, which has garnered praise from audiences across different languages, under the radar of the legendary composer.

Ilaiyaraaja has taken legal action after discovering that his song ‘Kammani’ from Kamal Haasan’s classic film “Guna” was used without permission in “Manjummel Boys.” The song, featured in both the opening credits and the climax of the movie, captivated viewers but led to a legal dispute over unauthorized use of the composition.

Responding to the unauthorized use of his music, Ilaiyaraaja’s legal team has sent a notice to the creators of “Manjummel Boys.” The notice highlights the inappropriate utilization of his creative work and seeks compensation, especially considering the film’s availability on various OTT platforms.

The situation takes an intriguing turn as the makers of “Manjummel Boys” had previously secured permission from the music label that owns the audio rights to “Guna,” believing this to be adequate for using the song. However, Ilaiyaraaja’s legal challenge introduces a complex layer to the issue. It remains to be seen how the film’s team will address this unexpected legal entanglement.
