Allu Arjun has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking to dismiss a case filed against him in connection with an election campaign event in Nandyal. The actor participated in a campaign for YSRCP candidate Shilpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy on May 11, 2024, ahead of the Andhra Pradesh elections. The event drew a large crowd of fans and locals.
A case was registered at the Nandyal Second Town Police Station against Allu Arjun and Shilpa Ravichandra for allegedly violating the orders issued by authorities regarding the gathering. In response, the duo filed a quash petition, urging the court to dismiss the charges. They also requested interim relief to halt further proceedings in the case.
The Station House Officer of Nandyal’s second town police station, Deputy Tahsildar, and the 2024 general election Flying Squad Team In-charge, P. Ramachandra Rao, have been named as respondents in the petition. Although the case was listed for hearing on Monday, it was adjourned to Wednesday due to time constraints in the court.
The Deputy Tahsildar had lodged a complaint, alleging that the event violated the election code, as neither Allu Arjun nor Shilpa Ravichandra had obtained prior permission for the gathering. This led to the filing of the case.
In their petition, Allu Arjun clarified that his visit was a personal one to congratulate his friend Kishore Reddy, and not intended as a public meeting. He argued that personal visits do not constitute a violation of the election code and requested the court to quash the charges.
The High Court has accepted the petition, and the hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
