“I Once Thought All Directors Were Bad”: Prashanth Neel

Tuesday, April 15, 2025

Renowned Kannada filmmaker Prashanth Neel, known for KGF Chapter 1 & 2 and Salaar, recently shared his early misconceptions about the film industry. Speaking at an event alongside actress Amala, Neel recalled his initial mindset when he entered filmmaking.

“When I first stepped into the industry, I believed that all directors before me were bad,” Neel said, laughing. “I thought I was the one who needed to bring change to cinema. But once I began shooting my debut film Ugramm in 2014, I realized the reality.”

Neel highlighted the challenges of filmmaking, stating that while watching a film may seem effortless, the process of directing one is far more complex. “At one point, I felt that even if just ten people watched Ugramm, it would be enough. That experience taught me that filmmaking is not an individual pursuit but a collaborative effort. Success comes through teamwork, much like cricket rather than tennis,” he explained.

Currently, Neel is directing a film with Young Tiger NTR, further strengthening his reputation as a leading filmmaker in Indian cinema.
