Half the Industry Is Sold Out, Others Lack the Courage to Speak: Prakash Raj

Thursday, December 4, 2025
Actor Prakash Raj, known for his outspoken political views, has once again stirred debate with strong remarks about the Hindi film industry’s silence on pressing political issues. In a recent interview, the veteran actor alleged that many Bollywood actors have aligned themselves with the government, which is why they refrain from speaking out.
“Regardless of which party is in power, dissent is being suppressed,” Prakash Raj said. “Whether an artist chooses to speak or not is a personal choice, but they must understand the implications. Filmmaking itself requires awareness, and sometimes, even a battle to release a film. The truth is, many in the industry have sold out to the government, while others simply lack the courage to speak up. One of my friends once told me, ‘You have the courage to speak, I don’t.’ I understand that fear. But history may forgive wrongdoers — it never spares the silent.”
Addressing the decline in his Bollywood opportunities, Prakash Raj said his forthrightness may have led to fewer roles. “I speak directly and express my views without hesitation. Some may fear that working with me could invite trouble. That could be a reason why opportunities have reduced. But witnessing these circumstances has only strengthened my belief that it is important to raise one’s voice, regardless of the consequences,” he concluded.
