Sankranthi season is one of the most preferred release windows for Telugu big-ticket films. Filmmakers opt for this particular festival season because audiences flock to theatres in multitude irrespective of the talk on the films.
Like every year, the upcoming Sankranti festival will also witness a bunch of notable releases in Tollywood. Earlier, it was speculated that actors like Prabhas, Pawan Kalyan and Chiranjeevi are likely to vie at the box office with their upcoming biggies. However, it seems like Mahesh Babu is the only star hero who is going to entertain moviegoers this Sankranti. Besides Mahesh, second-tier actors like Ravi Teja and Vijay Devarakonda are also in the fray.
Apart from Guntur Kaaram, no other big production is aiming for the festival season. Prabhas’ Kalki 2898AD, Chiru’s film with Kalyan Krishna, Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad and OG are out of the Sankranti race because of the delay in shooting formalities.
Guntur Kaaram has just resumed its shooting and Trivikram is planning to complete the entire filming by November. Guntur Kaaram will face competition from Prasanth Varma’s Hanu-Man and Ravi Teja’s Eagle. Vijay Devarakonda’s Family Star with director Parasuram is also in contention.
As of now, Guntur Kaaram is the only big move set for release in January. Trade circles are expecting some more medium and small films to join the race. It is a great opportunity for Guntur Kaaram to take a solid opening because of the high expectations.
Last year, both Chiru and Balayya locked horns during the festival season with Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. Both films collected solid revenues taking advantage of the festival holidays.
