Gowtam Tinnanuri, the mastermind director of Kingdom, which released on July 31, has been busy with the post-production work and therefore skipped attending the promotional events of the film. But now he has begun giving interviews and media interactions in which he provided useful information regarding the film’s reception and hinted at what is in store for the franchise next.
During a recent interview, Gowtam disclosed that Kingdom was originally planned as a two-part series. The initial part ends with the arrival of a major new character, Sethu, and he will be the lead antagonist. In the coming second part, the focus will be on a strong confrontation between Vijay Deverakonda’s character, Soori, and Sethu. Rather than jumping into a sequel, Gowtam is considering the possibility of a lesser, OTT-based endeavor in order to introduce Sethu’s character to the public before part two makes its way to screens.
Gowtam went on to reveal that some scenes cut from the first part will be made available in the OTT version, giving audiences a more insightful glimpse into Sethu’s character. The notion is to create hype and tension by providing a glimpse into this pivotal antagonist in advance of his full participation in the next chapter. Producer Nag Vamsi had previously promised that a familiar face would be playing the role of Sethu, though the actor remains unknown at present.
Vijay Deverakonda also dropped hints that talks for part three are in progress. If the third part happens, it will probably be a prequel that is set in the 1920s. But it is still in the early stages, and nothing has been said officially. Right now, Kingdom keeps doing well at the box office, and there are chances that the second part may find its way to an OTT platform later on. For the time being, Vijay is set on completing his current projects before any new developments in the Kingdom franchise.
