Genelia Speaks on Long Working Hours

Friday, December 5, 2025
Actress Genelia, currently promoting her upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par alongside Aamir Khan, shared her views on the demanding nature of working hours in the film industry. Addressing the balance between professional and personal life, she stated that while working 10-hour days can be difficult, it is far from impossible. The film, which has completed all formalities, is slated for release on June 20.
Speaking in an interview, Genelia explained, “Working for extended hours is challenging for anyone, but not unmanageable. I often work 10 hours a day, and occasionally up to 12 if required by the director. It’s reasonable, as long as we adjust and understand our responsibilities.” Her remarks come in the backdrop of reports that actress Deepika Padukone was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Spirit—a Prabhas starrer directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga—due to concerns over work-hour conditions. While Deepika has not responded publicly, industry figures such as Mani Ratnam, Ajay Devgn, and Neha Dhupia have supported her stance. Genelia’s comments now add another voice to the ongoing discussion surrounding work ethics in the film industry.
