Vishwaksen’s ambitious and brave attempt with ‘Gaami’, a genre-bending science fiction thriller that hit the screens this Friday, seems to be working wonders at the box office in the opening weekend, thanks to the positive feedback and decent reviews despite its narrative shortcomings.
The film, which initially started as a crowd-funded venture four years ago and was later taken up by renowned production house UV Creations, took a solid opening at the worldwide box office on its opening day because of the stupendous teasers and trailers. While the domestic numbers are good, the overseas collections are simply outstanding.
The visual extravaganza is heading towards attaining blockbuster status in USA by the end of the first weekend because of its terrific run. Gaami took a fantastic start with $ 160 K from Thursday premieres. This is a solid opening because even some of the notable medium-budget films of tier 2 actors didn’t get such a good start.
On Friday, Gaami is likely to add another $ 125K and by the start of Saturday, it will surpass the $ 300K to emerge as a blockbuster. Trade circles predict that the film will enter the profit zone even before completing the first weekend. It will easily breach the half-a-million-dollar mark on Sunday.
Gaami is hailed as one of the path-breaking movies of Telugu cinema because of its unconventional narration and top-notch visuals. Vishwaksen’s performance as Aghora is said to be the selling point for the film.
Directed by debutant Vidyadhar Kagita, Gaami has Chandini Chowdary, MG Abhinaya and others in significant roles.
