As the footfalls of audiences started dwindling due to the advent of OTT platforms, producers are unable to recoup their investment through the theatrical business of their films. Hence, they are overly dependent on non-theatrical rights to pocket profits. This is why digital rights, Hindi dubbing rights and other aspects play a major role in deciding the release dates and other aspects of any film irrespective of the budget and casting.
Among the bunch of films that are slated for release during Sankranthi, Vijay Devarakonda’s Family Star is struggling to find handsome offers from digital streaming giants like Amazon and Netflix.
The reason behind this is that both these streaming partners have already bagged other films like Guntur Kaaram and Saindhav which are also releasing during the festival season. So, they are not interested in buying Family Star and releasing it online four weeks after its theatrical release along with these films.
Dil Raju is now in a huge dilemma because Family Star is supposed to hit the screens during Sankranthi. As the film is an out-and-out entertainer, it will garner good hype and can draw huge crowds, taking advantage of the festival atmosphere.
If Familly Star misses the festival season, it will be a big setback for its theatrical business. So, Dil Raju is determined to release the film as announced.
