Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has raised objections regarding the conduct of the swearing-in ceremony of the MLAs in the AP Assembly. He specifically objected to being given the opportunity to take the oath only after the chief minister and ministers, questioning whether this was a deliberate attempt to deny them opposition status.
Jagan argued that it was against the Assembly rules for him to take the oath after the chief minister and ministers. He has written a letter to AP Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatr, stating that the law clearly specifies that the party with the maximum number of seats in the opposition should be granted opposition status. He pointed out that there is no requirement for holding 10 percent of the seats to be recognized as the opposition.
In his letter, Jagan also criticized the ruling coalition government and the Speaker for what he described as hostile actions. He mentioned that videos of the Speaker making violent remarks are circulating, creating an environment in the Assembly where it is difficult to speak up. Jagan requested that the Speaker consider his letter and take a decision on granting opposition status, emphasizing that legal participation in the House proceedings is only possible with such recognition.
