VISAKHAPATNAM: In a significant operation, the CBI intercepted a substantial quantity of narcotics disguised as dried yeast at Visakhapatnam port. Acting on intelligence provided by Interpol, authorities apprehended a shipping container as part of their collaborative initiative dubbed ‘Operation Garuda,’ conducted in conjunction with customs officials. While investigations are ongoing, there are suspicions that cocaine may have been mixed with the dried yeast.
According to an official statement, the CBI detained the container containing narcotic drugs mixed with approximately 25,000 kg of dried yeast. The precise quantity of narcotics is currently under evaluation. Although the container was detained on Tuesday, details of the case were only made public on Thursday. The container had been dispatched from Santos Port in Brazil and was intended for delivery to a private company at Visakhapatnam.
