Ace producer Dil Raju, who is known for his extraordinary judgemental skills which is the reason for his impressive success track, made a lucky escape with Shankar’s Indian 2. The current box office trend of this much anticipated sequel suggests that Dil Raju avoided a potential loss by backing out from this project in the initial days.
Long back, Dil Raju officially announced that he will join hands with director Shankar for Indian 2 and also stated that the film will be made on a massive budget of 150 Crores. This announcement came as a big surprise to everyone because Dil Raju is known for churning out mostly medium budget films throughout his career. Though he bankrolled some big-ticket films with a star heroes, he made sure that the budget was within his reach.
After announcement, Dil Raju sensed the delay and the outcome of Indian 2 and immediately ditched his plans to go ahead with the project. Shankar later brought Lyca Production on board and went ahead with the filming of Indian. But, the film faced numerous production challenges and also took inordinate time to complete the entire shooting formalities, resulting in budget escalation.
Dil Raju’s decision to withdraw from this project turned out to be prudent decision as Indian 2 is likely to be a loss venture at the box office.
Shankar’s next film Game Changer is coming from the stables of Dil Raju, however. So, it will be a litmus test for both Dil Raju and Shankar. Luckily, Ram Charan’s image increased after RRR. Hence, Game Changer will be a different trade equation.
